PhD students from our centre presented the poster at the 4th Macau Symposium on Cognitive and Brain Sciences, University of Macau

During the 4th Macau Symposium on Cognitive and Brain Sciences held at the University of Macau on 8-9 September 2023, our centre’s PhD students presented a poster showcasing our study titled Happy wives, happy kids: Brain synchronization of parent-child emotional engagement and its impact on children’s emotional development”.

This research unveiled notably heightened brain synchronization between mothers and daughters, specifically in the right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and the right pars triangularis (PTR) Broca’s areas, observed during natural conversations within families. Furthermore, the study identified a correlation between mother-daughter brain synchronization, maternal marital satisfaction, and a decrease in emotional symptoms in daughters which may lead to developmental difficulties. These findings offered valuable insights for safeguarding and intervening in children’s emotional socialization and mental well-being.
